How Hard Is Security+

The CompTIA Security+ certification is globally recognized and valued, and once you obtain it, your career path opens up to many opportunities. However, people have argued about the difficulty of this exam. So, how hard is the Security+ exam, and what is needed to pass it successfully?

In order to pass the CompTIA Security+ exam, you need to be open and dedicated to learning, and you need a proper preparation process. This is an exam of certain difficulty that requires serious commitment and discipline. Therefore, you need to be prepared to spend much of your free time studying.

Below, I have discussed the characteristics of CompTIA’s Security+ certification, and the benefits and opportunities it offers. Also, I have explained the difficulty of the exam, and the things that need to be done for achieving the certification. Even though the exam is difficult, it can be managed, but you have to be significantly committed and serious during the preparation process.

What Is Security+?

Security+ is a certification provided by CompTIA that is characterized by global recognition and value. It covers the fundamental concepts and theories of security, and the gained skills enable the candidate to perform core security tasks. Also, this certification is vendor-neutral, meaning that you can use it for different kinds of job positions, or as a foundation for further certificates in the IT industry.

In the core of Security+ are the concepts and techniques that prepare the candidates to respond to possible security issues and vulnerabilities. Therefore, once you pass the exam you are adequate to solve security incidents and perform tasks that will prevent and protect a system or a network from possible cyberattacks.

Since Security+ is concerned with the security field, it is widely known that it requires a special set of skills, frameworks, and methods. In order to perform security tasks and functions properly, you need to have a lot of hands-on experience. This is a delicate field and it asks for a lot of commitment and dedication.

Before you even commit to the preparation for the exam, you need to understand a couple of things. Firstly, your end goal is to get certified in a certain area, and secondly, your knowledge and skills are what matters the most. You should not think about the job you are going to get with the certifications because your opinions and wishes might change, but your knowledge will stay forever.

How To Prepare For Security+?

In order to achieve success and get your certification, you need to take into consideration several crucial things.

Firstly, you need to be seriously dedicated to your study hours and be open to learning at all times. Secondly, you have to develop a willingness to study, or everything might turn out to be for nothing. Lastly, you need a huge amount of time practicing, and a serious dedication to your preparation process.

These three things will certainly get you to your finish line, but only if you commit as you mean it. Without long study hours and a lot of practice, you will not get anywhere. Even if you already have experience in the network security area, you still need to prepare for the exam in a proper manner.

Once you establish these things, you get to move onto the materials you are going to use. There are a lot of sources that can be used for the Security+ exam, however, you cannot use all of them. Therefore, you need to make a good selection of books and materials on which you are going to rely.

When you finally do this step, then you should make a well-designed study plan that will help you organize your time. Good organization is also important in this process since you probably have work, or some other activities during the day, and you need to make time for learning. Be sure that you study for several hours each day in order not to get anxious and stressed as the date for the exam approaches.

With the proper materials and a well-organized study plan, you should ease up the preparation process. Preparing for an exam is indeed difficult, therefore having everything planned in advance will be of huge help.

How Hard Is Security+?

When it comes to the difficulty of a particular exam, it is important to understand that this usually depends on the individual, i.e., their prior knowledge and experience in a certain field. The truth is that every exam is difficult on its own, and to measure the difficulty of each is practically impossible.

To explain the difficulty of Security+, firstly, we need to look into its objectives. This exam covers the following:

  • Attacks, Threats, and Vulnerabilities
  • Architecture and Design
  • Implementation
  • Operations and Incident Response
  • Governance, Risk, and Compliance

Taking into consideration each of the objectives, you can see that Security+ covers pretty much complicated concepts. In other words, you are required to possess a lot of theoretical knowledge along with experience and practice. Some people might already be familiar with the actions that need to be taken in certain situations considering security, however, they do not know how to explain that in theory.

The Security+ exam requires an explanation of each notion and objective, so you would need to build up your professional terminology in the security field. Even if you have experience in responding to threats and attacks, and you already know what functions you need to implement to protect a system or network, you need certain definitions to explain that.

Therefore, you need to study and practice a lot and pass the exam even on the first attempt. It is a difficult examination, but not impossible.

As you can see, it takes a lot to pass the Security+ exam, but everything can be achieved if you have good strategies. Your willingness to learn and your organizational skills can help you a lot in achieving your goal. Every exam is difficult, but you need to have the right approach to pass it.
