Introduction

The LAN settings a computer needs to connect to a network depend on the type of network the computer is connecting to. There are different types of LANs that have been developed with time to meet the growing demands of our ever-increasing network needs.  These network types include Ethernet, Wireless LAN (WLAN), and Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Ethernet has been around for a long time and is still the most widely used LAN technology. Wireless LANs are an alternative to Ethernet connections, especially in public settings. VPN’s are becoming more popular because of their ability to connect large groups of people securely over the internet instead of relying on physical cables or telephone lines.

What is LAN Settings?

A LAN is a group of computers, laptops, printers, and other enabled o=devices interconnected through a Local Area Network. A typical wireless LAN will have a base station to be spread signals in all directions. An Ethernet cable can be used to allow the computers on the network to communicate with each other while at the same time allowing access to people outside of the LAN by sharing information over the Internet. There are various types of networks that are available for use depending on what type of setup is needed or desired.

The default Internet Protocol for local area networks is IPv4 and the other option is to use IPv6. The way these protocols stack up against each other, we can see that it will be easier to set up a router compared to configuring the settings of each individual computer. This will also allow users to access their devices remotely as well as allow the devices to communicate with other enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets.

How many types of LAN Settings are there?

There are six types of LAN Settings:

-Ad Hoc: This is when all computers in the network connection directly to each other. These connections will range from low-speed connections like a Bluetooth connection to high-speed connections like an Ethernet cable. Ad-hoc networks can be small and limited in size and range, connecting only two devices for example, or they can be large and encompass many more devices.

-Infrastructure: This is when one device (usually a router) connects to another device (usually a switch). The switch then connects to other devices such as laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. When this type of connection is used, it allows for more users on the network than ad hoc networks because there are multiple connections available.

-Wired: In a wired type of network, the AP (access point) will connect to a switch using Ethernet cables. The Ethernet port on other devices will also have an Ethernet cable connecting it to the switch. This allows for increased speed and performance when compared with other types of LAN Settings. Wireless devices can be connected to the network by using a wireless router.

-Wireless: In this type of networking topology, all hardware is completely dependent upon its radio frequency interface for communication. A wireless LAN is an example of this type of network. All devices connect to the network using radio frequency communication.

-Mesh: This topology is different than other types because it can provide fault tolerance (if one device fails, traffic will be routed through other available devices) and high availability (all available paths are used for communication). It is also said to provide a balance between the coverage area and added complexity.

-Hybrid: This type of network is a combination of wired and wireless links that are organized in an arbitrary fashion. Mesh topologies can be either wired or wireless, but other hybrid topologies may only have parts that are wired or wireless. For example, one part of the network may be set up as an ad hoc wireless network and another part of the same network may be established as a wired infrastructure.

What are the benefits of using LAN Settings?

There are many benefits of using the LAN Settings in Windows. It will allow you to share any type of file, folder, or drive on your computer; it allows you to connect to other computers in the same network; it also lets you play games against people using the same LAN Settings. The easiest way to set up a LAN connection is through an automatic setup using DHCP which assigns network information automatically to every computer on the local network. The computer would automatically find and connect to any other device on the same LAN without you having to enter any settings yourself. This is a fast and convenient way to get up and running quickly, but it does require that your router is configured correctly. If not, then you will have to set up each computer manually.

What are the drawbacks of using LAN Settings?

As with most Wi-Fi connections, the LAN cable connection is limited by the length of the cable. For most applications, a cable that’s no more than 50 feet long will usually work. Over 50 feet and the signal strength will be too weak for a strong connection.

Compatibility is another challenge. If the devices are not all using the same LAN settings, then you will have to go into each device and change its settings individually.

Conclusion

The LAN Settings is a setting that allows you to share your internet connection with other devices in the same network. The LAN Setting can be used for many purposes, such as sharing files or printers across various computers on wirelessly connected networks. However, this may not work well if one computer has an unsecured WiFi signal and another has wireless security enabled because it’s possible for someone to access these shared resources without permission.
